Day 1 October 5                                                                     USA

Depat Atlanta via Olympic Air France 307 for your flight to Paris.

Day 2 October 6                                                          Athens (D)

Arrive in Paris and depart on connecting flight to Athens arriving in the afternoon.  You will be escorted to your private motor  coach for a short ride to your hotel.  After you have checked-in and been refreshed, the representative from Amphitrion will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Dinner (included) will be at a local restaurant.

Day 3 October 7                                                           Athens (B,L)

After breakfast at your hotel, start a morning sightseeing tour of Athens, featuring the Temple of Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Acropolis (including the famous Parthenon and the Temple of Athena), the Acropolis Museum and the National Gallery of Art.

After lunch at a local restaurant (included), the afternoon and evening are at your leisure. .

Day 4 October 8                                                           Athens (B)

Following breakfast, you will have a morning tour to the National Archaeological Museum containing treasures dating back 2,500 years from all over the ancient Greek world.  Here you will see the development of Greek art from the Neolithic to the Roman period. In the hall of the Mycenaean exhibits you will see the pure gold cups from Vafio.

The remainder of the day at leisure. We suggest a stroll around the Plaka area, the old City of Athens with its many shops and tavernas.

Dinner is on your own.

Day 5 October 9                                                         Olympia (B)

Today begins your 4 day Classical tour of Greece.  You will cross the Corinth Canal and drive to Epidaurus to visit the archaeological site and the theatre famous for its remarkable acoustics.  Continue on to Mycenae to visit the site surrounded by the Cyclopean walls.  Then, depart for Olympia for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 October 10                                                          Delphi (B)

In the morning, visit the archaeological site and the Museum of Olympia. Drive via Patras to Rion, across the channel to Antirion on the "state of the art" suspension bridge considered to be the longest in Europe.  Continue on to Delphi, one of the most important religious and political centers of ancient Greece.

Dinner is on your own.

Day 7 October 11                                                          Delphi (B)

 This morning, visit the site in Delphi including the ancient Sanctuary of Apollo, walk the "sacred way" where the famous Pythian oracles were heard. After lunch (on your own), you visit the museum housing the beautiful bronze statue of the Charioteer.

The remainder of the afternoon and dinner is on your own.

Day 8 October 12                                                       Rhodes (B,L)

After breakfast, return to Athens for the flight to Rhodes, the largest of the Dodecanese islands.  There will be a stop for lunch (included) on the way.

You will be met by representatives of the tour operator and will transfer to your hotel.  The remainder of the day you are free to explore this beautiful island of roses on your own, shop or just relax.

Day 9 October 13                                                       Rhodes (B,L)

Following breakfast, there will be a morning walking tour of the old medieval city of Rhodes which is still surrounded by the high walls erected by the knights. The predominant Medieval character of the island is in evidence in the harbor with the long ramparts sheltering the small port of Mandraki. After lunch (included), the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 10 October 14                                                     Rhodes (B,D)

This morning you will drive to the east coast to the village of Lindos. Upon arrival, there will be a walking tour of the whitewashed village and a visit to the famous Acropolis of Lindos which can be reached on foot or by donkey. Upon returning to the city and lunch (on your own), there will then be visit the Grand Masters Palace in the old city that houses a collection of 16th and 17th century furniture and Roman mosaics.  You will also visit the hospital which is now a museum.

Dinner (included) will be at a local restaurant.

Day 11 October 15                                                              Heraklion (B,D)

This morning after breakfast you transfer to the airport for you flight to Heraklion, capital city of the island of Crete.  Upon arrival, you will be met and will transfer to your hotel.  There will be time to relax before dinner (included).

Day 12 October 16                                                               Heraklion (B,L)Following breakfast, the motor coach will take you to the Palace of Knossos. This site was discovered in 1899 by Sir Arthur Evans. The elaborate palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth of King Minos and the seat of the Minoan culture. There will also be a visit to the Archaeological Museum. Here are assembled almost all the finds from the Minoan era - pottery, carvings, gold and the marvelous frescoes from the palace. After lunch (included), the afternoon is at your leisure.

Dinner is on your own in Heraklion.

Day 13 October 17                                                              Heraklion (B,L)

After breakfast, there will be a full day tour of Gortys, a city that flourished during the Roman era.  It had its origins in the Minoan era and the most distinctive monuments are the Praetorium, residence of the Roman governor and the Nymphaion, where the nymphs were worshipped.

After lunch (included) it is on to Phaestos, the second most important palace of Minoan Crete and the residence of the mythical Radamanthes. The palace was also the nucleus of a settlement inhabited since the Neolithic age.

Dinner is on your own.

Day 14 October 18                                                                   Chania (B,D)

This morning you will board the motor coach to travel along the northwest coast with its breath taking scenery of spectacular mountain ranges and sleepy little fishing villages.  The first stop is the famous monastery of Arkadi, built in the 16th century in a wonderful natural setting.  Then, there will be a stop in Rethymnon, known as the city of the scholars.  Here you can stroll through the narrow streets with their Venetian flavor, or maybe take coffee in the harbor.  Then it will be on to Chania, the "little Venice" of Crete.  Of the cities fortifications dating from the early 13th century, the bastions, moat and ruins of the walls surrounding the city have survived.  You will check into your hotel and then have dinner (included).

Day 15 October 19                                                                   Athens (B)

Today is at leisure in Chania until your late afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Athens.  You will over night at the hotel at the Athens Airport.

Day 16 October 20                                                                           Home

Depart in the morning for your return flight connecting through Paris to your gateway city.

 

 

The price (land and domestic air only) is:

$4,195 per person double occupancy based on 10 participants OR $3,805 per person double occupancy based on 15 participants OR $3,470 per person double occupancy based on 20 participants.

The price of the single supplement is $620.
